Accessibility
This site aims at WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Where we fall short, we would like to know.
What we did
- Body text is set at 17px, above the usual 16px default, because our readers are often on a phone in a bright kitchen.
- Every colour pairing in the design system carries its measured contrast ratio. Body text on the page background measures 13.75:1; the smallest ratio used for text anywhere is 4.63:1.
- Focus is always visible: a three-pixel amber outline with an offset, never removed.
- The menu works from the keyboard, and Escape closes it and returns focus to the button.
- A skip link is the first thing in the tab order on every page.
- Animation and smooth scrolling are switched off when your system asks for reduced motion.
- No content depends on colour alone, and no text is rendered as an image.
Known limits
The signature divider is decorative and hidden from assistive technology, which is deliberate. Long tables of ZIP codes scroll horizontally on narrow screens rather than shrinking below a readable size.
